Cat-cow is a deceptively simple move. It doesn’t require equipment or athleticism, and it only takes a minute or two. But when done correctly, it delivers real benefits:
- Relieves tension in the neck, shoulders, and spine
- Improves spinal mobility
- Gently activates the core
- Enhances breath-body awareness
- Supports posture and spinal alignment
- Prepares the body for more intense movement or helps it wind down
That’s why it’s such a staple in yoga classes, warmups, cool-downs, and even physical therapy sessions.
But as with any movement, alignment matters. Small mistakes—like keeping your neck frozen—can limit the benefits or even lead to strain. Taking the time to slow down, tune into your breath, and move intentionally makes a big difference.
